The styles in the 740, however, are a different format from the current generation of PSRs. They do have four variations, but do not include OTS. Thus, PSR740 owners can not easily take advantage of the newer styles, where the one touch settings must be removed and other adjustments made to the styles to get them to work acceptably on the 740. However, thanks to the work of Onacimus Sahayam, who now has a PSR-2000 as well as his beloved PSR740, many of the 'newer' millennium styles (from the PSR2000 and Tyros) can not be enjoyed by PSR-740 users. Onacimus has also provided conversions of the PSR9000 styles for 740 owners. Below are some additional 'tips' from Onacimus about the PSR740 keyboard. -- Joe Waters
New Millennium Styles for the PSR740
I have converted the styles of TYROS and PSR-2000 including Floppy styles and also the additional new styles of the PSR-2100. All together, I am naming these styles as 'New Millennium Styles for the PSR-740.' In this conversion, I skipped many styles that were already available from the PSR-9000 conversions. For example 8Beat1, 8Beat2, 60's8Beat, etc are already available in 9000 with same and different names. This conversion consisted of two phases.
Phase 1: 'Millennium Styles' (206 styles)
Here I picked the selected styles, which have a long and melodious IntroB and EndingB and made some editing works in 740 (changing Tempo & Internal name). In the beginning, I faced many problems. Some files were impossible to load into the 740 because of their huge size. For these, I took advantage of the PSR-2000 Style Creator and deleted IntroC, EndingC and Break sections of each style, after which there was no problem in loading the style.
But still other problems surfaced in many styles. If we play the 7th chord, that sounds different than the natural chord. There are variations in voice change, volume level, parameter values of Reverb, Chorus and DSP depths in some tracks. At first I did not know how to find a remedy for this. Then I discovered that the styles without OTS are free from these problems. So I picked the selected TYROS styles from, 'TYROS Styles for PSR 9000' page in PSR Tutorial and repeated the same procedure. There were no further problems.
Still some styles like 'SciFiMarch' were impossible to load in 2000 or 2100, so I skipped those styles. There are some additional styles in 2000 (not in TYROS) such as Funky Fusion, Rock + Half Time, Funky Disco, etc. And also the additional new styles of 2100 such as ClassicPnoBld, DreamDance, SchlagerBeat, etc. I removed the OTS from these styles using Michael Bedesem's MIDI Player. Then I completed the first phase of the conversion project successfully. Here, I never used the Style assembling function in PSR 2000 Style Creator.
Phase 2: 'Millennium Plus Styles' (251 Styles)
In this phase, I picked all the styles except the existing similar styles of 9000. I made this conversion as I did in 'PSR-9000 Internal Styles for PSR-740'. For these conversions, I did use the style assembling function.
All together I arranged the styles as categorized in TYROS
A-Pop Rock B-Ballad C-Dance D-Swing&Jazz E-R&B | F-Country G-Latin H-Ballroom Party I-Movie&Show J-World |
Where necessary, I revoiced and made volume adjustments in some tracks. I also added and removed notes in order to improve the sound on the PSR 740. The reason for adding the first letter before the style name (e.g. A-16BUPT) is that if we make all the styles appear together in one folder, the styles will automatically be arranged into category and alphabetical order.
All these styles are available below. You can get a list of the styles in this MS Excel file. Millennium Styles are in 4 zipped disks and Millennium Plus Styles in 5 zipped disks. Though there are various separate web sites dedicated to PSR 740, 90% of my conversions were done with the help of PSR Tutorial. That is why I am sending these styles only to PSR Tutorial.
I would like to get feedback and suggestion from the PSR-740 owners. So please do send me an email with your ideas and comments. Thank you, Onacimus Sahayam .

PSR9000 Styles for the PSR740
I made my conversions in a PSR-2000 (owned by one of my relatives) using the Style Creator function. First, I changed the bar of INTRO B and ENDING B as it is in INTRO C and Ending C, and INTRO A as one bar respectively in each of the styles. Then, I copied the contents from INTRO C, ENDING C and BREAK into INTRO B, ENDING B, and INTRO A. Then I saved the style to disk. Where necessary, I revoiced some tracks that are appropriate for the PSR-740. For example, the 740 has no SWEET HEAVEN voice, so I changed that voice to BRIGHTNESS, ECHOES & FANTASIA. I also changed NYLON GUITAR to SPANISH GUITAR and SMOOTH NYLON GUITAR. Next, I loaded all these styles into the PSR-740 User Styles (1-3). I did some editing in the 740 (changing the internal name) and saved the styles again to another floppy disk as USR files (Uf_00001.usr). In a PC, I changed the file name. The first style in the 8-beats was 60'sRock1, but the name in the PC is S_00101.sty. I changed that name to A-60ROK1.sty. Note that, because of these conversions in the 740, the INTRO C, ENDING C and BREAK disappeared.
The first letter in the filenames denotes the category. I've also included that letter in the name of the zip file. Your your convenience, I have compiled an Excel file that provides a PSR-9000 style list for the PSR740 conversions provided here.

All the 9000 original internal styles can be read in 740 without any problem. But we have to revoice some tracks that have some strange voices (if necessary) and can be saved in Registration Memory. These styles are available in the PSR 9000 Styles Page.
Yamaha PSR740 and PSR640 Portable Keyboards
July 23, 1999 - The PSR640 and the PSR740 from Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Portable Keyboards, offer features and performance characteristics that cross over between hobbyists and professional users. The price point is affordable for the casual user, but the performance is more than enough for the most discerning professional. One look at the radical new design and ergonomics will tell you that this is something very new.
'Incredible power and innovation best describe these keyboards,' states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards. 'These new models represent a departure from their predecessors. There are more than incremental improvements. The PSR640 and 740 look and perform like a separate, professional line of keyboards, with little family resemblance to the models below.'
The most obvious innovation is the incorporation of dual-screen displays. The lower screen takes care of such housekeeping issues as function status, track levels and more. The upper display is a bit-mapped, graphic display that presents information not previously available on low-tech displays. It offers such information as graphic representations of functions, including computer-like folders showing song, style and function lists; animated help screens; song lyrics; and more.
New, stunning, sound quality is attributed to Yamaha's Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) tone generation, Yamaha's XG MIDI compatibility, a newly designed bass-reflex sound system with two-way stereo speakers and enhanced, multi-effect DSP. In addition, Yamaha's exclusive 'Sweet Voices' have been added from the legendary PSR8000, resulting in wonderful trumpet and flute sounds.
In the case of the PSR740, a flute organ has been added, complete with graphic drawbars in the upper display that can be individually manipulated. This classic jazz and rock-organ sound is further enhanced by programmable tremolo in the DSP.
Innovations in the PSR740 continue with a microphone input for vocals, which links up with an internal vocal harmonizer, enabling users to literally sing harmony with themselves in real time. If remembering the words is a problem, both the 740 and 640 have another innovation called 'LY'(Lyrics) that will scroll the words across the upper display in time to the music, adding the functions of a comprehensive karaoke system.
Want to enhance your voice a bit? How about adding reverb using the built-in multi-effect processor? You can even change the gender of your voice! Yamaha is world famous for its DSP technology.
The To Host port enables the direct connection to the serial port of a PC or Macintosh without the need of a MIDI interface card or box. A simple cable from the keyboard to the serial port is all the hardware needed. This opens a whole world of musical, educational and creative possibilities to the more than 30 million U.S. households with personal computers. This is especially important for laptop users, a growing segment of the total computer market for whom the addition of cards may not be an option. Much attention has been paid to ease of use, with a larger, icon-based, backlit display. All user interfaces have been completely redesigned, taking the PSR8000 to a new level of user friendliness.
Yamaha's Auto Accompaniment is world renowned for its natural, musically correct and easy-to-play styles. These functions have been enhanced with four variations per style and two intros and endings.
'The stunning performance characteristics and capabilities of the PSR740 and PSR640, in one complete package, are going to make professionals rethink the way they make music,' Presley says. 'The amazing innovations of these keyboards will make those who only listen rethink why they're not making the music themselves.'
322 Preset Styles
The PSR-S910 includes 293 Pro (prs) and 29 Session (sst) for a total of 321 styles in 11 style categories. The more junior PSR-S710 has 216 Pro and 16 Session styles for a total of 232 styles, 90 styles fewer than the S910.
Here's what Yamaha says about the S910 styles:
The accompainment styles found on the PSR-S910 give keyboard players a quick and easy way to sound fully arranged with little or no setup required.. The PSR-S910 allows one keyboardist to instantly sound like they're backed by LA's hottest session players, Nashville hired guns, or New York's finest studio cats.. all at the touch of a button and the voicing of a chord.
The table below lists all of the styles in the PSR-S910 and PSR-S710 (the number in parentheses by each style category is the number of S710 styles). Styles highlighted by a blue font are not available in the S710. Styles highlighted by a red font are in the S710, but not included in the S910. The numbers following the style name are the default tempo and the time signature.

Onacimus S910 Style Conversions
The conversions in this section were done on a PSR-S910. Most are in the newer SFF2 format that is used by the PSR-S910.
S910 Standard Styles Collection
Yamaha Psr 740 For Sale
(Mar 2014) For this collection, I picked the styles from my 3k Standard Collection, revoiced to the new standard voices of PSR S910. I also made voice changes in OTS. This collection is made from the selected styles of CVP-209/210, PSR-9000/9000PRO, PSR-740(Floppy), PSR-2000/2100, PSR-1500, PSR-S550 and PSR-A1000. These keyboards do not have MegaVoices but having Sweet!, Cool!, Live! and many outstanding standard voices. Among the above, the PSR-S550 has a lot of Sweet!, Cool!, & Live! Voices. So I included all S550 styles in this collection and made further voice changes to the similar new voices of the PSR-S910 that match the same expressive values. The S550 styles had no OTS. But I transfered OTS from S700 and S710 to the corresponding styles.
In this set there are six types of styles: Basic (.bcs), Session (.sst), Piano Combo (.pcs), Pianist (.pst), Pro (.prs) and Free Play (.fps). The 'Basic' are from PSR-9000/9000Pro and 740 Floppy. The others are from CVP-209/210, PSR-2000/2100, PSR-1500, and PSR-S550.
I also made further voice changes, eg. StandardKit1/2 to StudioKit (wherever necessary, particular in Rock type styles), Organ Voices to new Cool!Organ voices, ClassicGtr to SlideNylon, Flamenco, NylonMute Clean, 60'sClean to New Cool!Solid Gtrs, Mute to Cool! Mute.. In each, categories voices are changed to new voices up to the level of PSR S910. Although these conversion were made for the PSR-S910, they should also work fine on the PSR-S950/S750/S970/S770 and the Tyros3, Tyros4, and Tyros5 models.
The Microsoft XL File provides a complete list of the styles and the keyboard where they originated.

S910 SuperMega Styles (SFF1)
(September 2012) This collection includes all SFF1 Mega styles from Tyros1, Tyros2, CVP-309, CVP-409, PSR-3000, PSR-S900, PSR-S700 and PSR-OR700. Here I picked all Tyros1 styles as basic and added other styles if they were new and slightly different. I also did some slight revoicing(like Standard Collection) up to the standard of PSR-S910 inorder to sound better.
In this set there are five types of styles: Basic (.bcs), Session (.sst), Piano Combo (.pcs), Pianist (.pst), and Pro (.prs) The 'Basic' are only from TYROS1. Here S. Art! voices are included only in styles of Tyros2, CVP-409 and PSR-S900 Although these conversion were made for the PSR-S910, they should also work fine on the PSR-S950/S750/S970/S770 and the Tyros3, Tyros4, and Tyros5 models.

Yamaha Psr 740 Keyboard Price
For TYROS, CVP and later PSR Styles, I made the following adjustments:
- Replaced Mega! SinglecoilCleanGtr, FingerGtr, FingerSlapGtr, VintagePickGtr, VintageSlapGtr, SlapAmpGtr with Mega! SolidGtr2.
- Replaced Mega! JazzGuitar with Mega! SolidGtr2 by reducing the Brightness and Harmonic Content.
- Replaced Mega! SteelAcoustic, SteelAcGtrSlap, SteelGtrTwin1, SteelGtrTwin2, 12StringTwin1, 12StringTwin2 with Mega! Steel.
- Replaced Mega! FlamencoGuitar, SpanishMedium, SpanishHard with Mega! Nylon.
- Replaced Mega! ClassicalStrings with Mega! SmallStrings and Mega! RealStrings with Mega! LargeStrings.
- Replaced Mega! PopHorns1, PopHorns2 with Mega! Brass.
- Replaced Mega! VintageRound, VintageFlat with Mega! ElectricBass and Mega! VintagePick with Mega! PickBass.
- The same applies in S.Art! Voices.
- I tried my level best to revoice the Choir voices to sound better. If that didn't sound better, I deleted that track.
- I revoiced the new Organ voices of TYROS, CVP and later PSR using the help of Michael's MidiPlayer because most of the organ voice tracks are given as Slow and Fast in the same track. PSR-S910 has only JazzSlow and JazzFast.
- In S950 and later models, Revoicing SuperArticulation voices to style tracks are enabled but disabled in 910 and previous models.
- I viewed some styles in 950 and discovered that, for Organ voices, SuperArticulation voices are used. So, I revoiced to SA!JazzRotary and SA!RockRotary using Michael's MidiPlayer. After this I played in 910, I could not view the voice, but I was able to hear the Rotary effects.
- Then, I revoiced other unknown voices according to the matching voices that sound good in the S910.
Very Interestingly I converted The Audio Styles of PSR-S950 and TYROS5 by transferring the accompaniment tracks to a new style and added R1 and R2 tracks from other matching styles. However I edited the end parts of Intros and Endings. In some styles I did the Rhythm tack as my own. Here I skipped the DJ! styles of S*70 keyboards.
In the World category, I do not include some styles with ethnic kit. I have placed the YEP styles in a separate 'Ethnic' category. The 'Bassic' styles are YEP style of PSR S650 and 'Pro' are YEP styles of S750 & S950. Most of the styles are Indian styles. With my level best I remaped the NewIndian Kits and TablaKits to the IndianKit of S910.
I converted Choir tracks of T4, T5, C6 & C7 styles having Mega Choir voices. Editing Choir tracks are difficult because there are a lot of voice changes (MSB, LSB and Program Changes) and parameter changes (Control changes like Attack, Release, etc) in a single track. There may not be much difference on the edited choir tracks in TYROS models. T4 and T5 have a lot of Mega/SuperArticulation/Regular choir voices. PSR models have only Choir (legacy), GothicVox, UuhChoir, Gospelvoices, etc. But S970 has two new Choir voices (BoysChoirAah and BoysChoirOoh in SuperArticulation! and Live!). These voices cannot be replaced with the Mega Choir voices of the TYROS styles. Lot of note editions, velocity changes and parameter changes have to be done. So these styles will be useful for PSR owners.
In this set there are six types of styles: Basic (.bcs), Pro (.prs), Session (.sst), Piano Combo (.pcs), Pianist (.pst), and Free Play (.fps). Here only PSR-S650 styles are given as 'Basic'.

Genos Styles for PSR-S910
(Jun 2018) 219 Genos styles have been converted for use with the S970. While converting GENOS styles, I played and checked all the styles one by one. I found many new styles in old names. For example Bluegrass, Country 8Beat1, ChaChaCha, etc. Many old styles are given in new names 9-8Waltz as FinalWaltz, 70'sChartCountry as TopChartCountry etc. Many new styles are given in new names (MoonWaltz, 80'sChristmas, AmbientChristmas, etc). I picked the new and slightly different styles and converted those styles. All the converted Genos styles are in the table above.
S910 Special Styles Collection
(Nov 2017) I got various different Styles (not preset styles) from the internet as well as from a lot of Yamaha Expansion pack styles (Europe, Brazil, Mexican, Indonesian, Vietnam, Latin-Salsa, etc). I have converted them for the PSR-S910. According to my hearing capacity, I put them in various categories. In some styles some sections are missing. I do not know the reason. But all styles are fantastic.

S910 Oriental SuperMega Styles
I have completed three sets of Oriental Super Mega styles from PSR-A2000 and A3000. These styles carry lots of new voices from the PSR-S910, very interestingly SA voices in OTS. So I named this set as 'Oriental SuperMega'.

More Power to the People: The New PSR-S910 and PSR-S710
—Additions to Yamaha's Deep Line of Arranger Workstation Keyboards—
(July, 2009) BUENA PARK, Calif. — Yamaha debuts two new Arranger Workstation keyboards, the PSR-S910 and the PSR-S710.
Songwriters and arrangers will find that the PSR-S910 fulfills their needs for a great-sounding instrument with pro capabilities, but it's also perfect for so-called 'one-man bands' because it puts the performer in charge of hundreds of different virtual bands that sound great due to ultra-realistic accompaniment styles. It's like having instant access to top session musicians at the touch of a key or the press of a button.
The new model adapts feature sets from Yamaha's flagship arranger Tyros3, including Super Articulation Voices, which give strings, guitars, reeds and brass sounds real-time expressiveness previously unattainable on a keyboard instrument, including the slide of a guitarist's fingers across a string or the breaths taken by a sax player.

The 61-key PSR-S910 also includes a luxurious 7' X 7' color screen and professional features like USB audio recording and playback of MP3. It also features a broadband connection that lets users link the keyboards directly to the Internet, where downloadable content is available.

'The accompaniment styles found on the PSR-S910 give keyboard players a quick and easy way to sound like a fully arranged ensemble with little or no setup required,' said George Hamilton, Electronic Keyboard Product Manager, Yamaha Keyboard Division. 'The powerful Music Finder feature even allows them to set up the entire instrument by simply selecting from thousands of song titles. Style, tempo, variation and right hand Voices are instantly set when you select a title; it couldn't be any easier, faster or simpler.'
In addition to great sounds, the 61-key PSR-S710 blends functionality and affordability. With its huge sonic palette and realistic styles, it's an ideal arranger at home and on stage. High-end features include dozens of effects, a 16-track sequencer, an audio recorder and Internet connectivity.
'The PSR-S710 represents a significant leap forward in the evolution of the Arranger Workstation keyboard at all price points,' said Dane Madsen, Electronic Keyboard Marketing Manager, Yamaha Keyboard Division. 'The addition of USB audio recording delivers tremendous benefits to all musicians -- be they beginner, hobbyist or pro.'
The PSR-S910 and the PSR-S710 are expected to ship in October 2009. Mirc scripts download.
